Officers had to form’multiple lines’ to keep the groups apart as demonstrators started hurling missiles at police, a Victoria Police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.
Which group threw the missiles was not disclosed by the official.
The situation only became worse when a group of roughly 40 protesters started marching through the neighborhood, invading local stores and blocking busy junctions with wooden pallets.
A 41-year-old man from Footscray was arrested by police for indictable assault of police, while a 37-year-old woman from Brunswick East was arrested for unlawful assault and willful damage.
