Young males shouted ‘f*** trans rights’ as they trailed the demonstrators to the State Library’s lawn.
The men were chased along Swanston Street and into an alleyway after an incident, according to The Age.
38 searches were performed by officers to search for firearms and remove facial coverings, but none were discovered.
While authorities continued to examine CCTV material to decide whether more arrests were necessary, search powers were maintained in the area until 8 p.m.
According to a police spokesperson, “Victoria Police respects the right for people to protest peacefully, but we have zero tolerance for those who threaten the safety of the community and police.”
“Police will now examine the rally’s CCTV footage and look into any additional offenses found.”
