Cyclist Tragically Dies After Being Struck by Car During Early Morning Commute in Dorchester

A man in his 50s has tragically died after being hit by a car while cycling to work in Dorchester, police have confirmed.

The incident occurred early Friday morning, May 16, when Dorset Police were called to reports of a collision involving a white Fiat Panda and a cyclist on Bridport Road at approximately 7:35am.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and found the cyclist in serious condition. He was airlifted to Southampton Hospital, but despite efforts by medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries later that evening.

The crash triggered a significant police response, with Bridport Road and nearby streets — including Gloucester Road, Middlemarsh Street, Williams Avenue, and Damers Road — cordoned off for several hours.

The roads were finally reopened around 12pm.
