Nevertheless, Erivo took to Instagram Stories to describe the altered image as “the wildest, most offensive thing I have seen,” comparing it to “that awful AI of us fighting.”
She accompanied a repost of the altered poster with the following statement: “This is equivalent to individuals asking, ‘Is your skin green?'”
Erivo continued, “None of this is amusing.” None of it is endearing. It diminishes my dignity. It diminishes us. The original poster is an illustration.
I am a genuine human being who elected to gaze directly at you, the viewer, through the lens of the camera, as we communicate with our eyes, rather than with words.
Erivo described the modification as “hurtful” and stated, “Our poster is a tribute, not a copy.” Editing my visage and concealing my irises is equivalent to erasing my identity.
In order to reaffirm her position, Erivo reposted the original poster with the following caption: “Let me place this right here, to remind you and cleanse your palette.”
