Although King’s case was probably caused by a combination of her high school fall and her hEDS, a joint weakening syndrome, about eight out of ten AOD instances are caused by severe trauma, such as auto accidents.
Just 1% of all cervical spine injuries are caused by AOD, making it an uncommon occurrence.
King can no longer bend, twist, or slump since her skull and pelvis are connected.
She is, nevertheless, gradually regaining the capacity to engage in the pastimes she enjoyed prior to that tragic fall twenty years ago. This involves a recent trip to the bowling alley.
“I didn’t plan on playing,” she remarked. I was only there to observe my pals. However, I felt compelled to ask myself, “Why not try?”
On my very first attempt, I bowled a strike. My pals celebrated wildly, clapped, and screamed. They weren’t merely rejoicing over the strike. They were commemorating all of my victories.
