‘Design decisions’ that made the difference are revealed by the architect of the house that survived the wildfire in Los Angeles.

The home, created by architect G Chasen, has captured the attention of social media users after a picture of the intact building surrounded by wreckage went viral.

Chasen explained on X (previously Twitter) how certain design decisions probably helped the house survive.

“It’s basically a horror show, no words really. A few of the design decisions we made here were beneficial. However, we were also really fortunate,”

He said in a post that included a quite unsettling picture of the entire home. Although it has some damage, the architect’s friend’s house is nonetheless “totally livable” notwithstanding.

“You have a sterile perimeter: no vegetation, except for the planters,” someone retorted. Your siding and roof are most likely fireproof. You have a retaining wall made of brick and mortar.
