Diane Guerrero’s heartbreaking realization that her parents were deported is tearing up the internet once again. “I got home and dinner was started, but I couldn’t find them”

Actress Diane Guerrero is best known for playing Orange Is the New Black’s Maritza. She also supports immigration reform and has personal experience with the devastating effects of family expulsion.

In her book My Family Divided: One Girl’s Journey of Home, Loss, and Hope, Diane chronicles how she discovered her parents and half-brother had been deported while she was still in school.

Speaking to CNN 10 years ago about the day it occurred, Diane also said, “I would always have this feeling — I was always scared that my parents were going to be gone.”

Diane continued by saying that her father would remind her “every day” of their predicament since she was the only US citizen in her family.
