Renowned Plano, Texas gastroenterologist Dr. Kenneth Brown also spoke to LADbible about how the problem affects you.

According to Dr. Brown, the presenter of the Gut Check Project podcast, those who from constipation  may find that coffee is a godsend. “However, it can also cause diarrhoea in some people,” he warns.

“Additionally, caffeine can increase the production of stomach acid, resulting in heartburn or acid reflux,

which can be uncomfortable and even painful.” Dr. Brown reported the presence of an antioxidant called chlorogenic acid in coffee beans.

“This compound can stimulate the muscles in the gut, which can trigger a bowel movement,” he explained.
