“The way she was killed is what enraged everyone,” said Joseph Doré, a community member from Bossou.
In South Africa, 26-year-old American graduate student Andrew Oberle experienced a horrifying attack while conducting fieldwork at the Jane Goodall Institute Chimpanzee Eden.
Oberle, who was pursuing a degree in Anthropology and Primatology, had unknowingly entered a restricted area when two male chimpanzees launched a ferocious assault.
Dragged under two fences—one of them electrified—Oberle was mauled for over half a mile.
The chimps tore off his ears, several fingers and toes, and even a testicle, while inflicting deep gashes on his limbs and stripping muscle from his arms.
