Among all animals, only chimpanzees and humans exhibit the rare behavior of deliberately organizing and executing strategic assaults.
“Research into aggressive behavior among chimpanzees has had a significant impact on shaping public perceptions about the evolutionary roots of human conflict,” stated Wilson.
“There are those who contend that warfare among humans is not an ancient instinct but rather a more recent social construct, potentially linked to developments such as the advent of agriculture,” he added.
Power hierarchies among primates have also been clearly documented, particularly through violent encounters where chimpanzees attacked, killed, and even consumed gorillas in Gabon’s Loango National Park.
