In two separate but harrowing incidents, chimpanzees were seen banding together to form alliances and launching assaults on groups of gorillas.
These coordinated attacks lasted a combined 124 minutes and resulted in the deaths of two infant gorillas.
The second of these violent episodes concluded with the death and severe mutilation of an infant gorilla, whose body was almost entirely devoured by a single adult female chimpanzee.
In contrast, gorillas generally exhibit much calmer and more peaceful temperaments.
