When Whitfield was young, he started acting in radio plays. He kept doing radio program work and performances when he was a UCLA student.
Whitfield’s mother brought her to Hollywood when she was four years old in order to help her start a career in show business. “Aim high all the way to the finish.”
During this period, her father had been sent abroad to oversee the Army Band. Since starting his theatrical career in 1949, Whitfield has portrayed the lead in several shows, such as Annie Get Your Gun.
The next year, she started to get small parts in TV shows including Racket Squad, One Man’s Family, and Hollywood Opening Night. She also had a lot of little movie parts.
