His symptoms, which were illnesses brought on by the severe E. coli 0157:H7 strain, were almost exactly the same as those experienced by the boys in Missouri at the same time and with the same diagnosis.
Antibiotics, however, might make a patient’s condition worse, making it challenging to treat infections brought on by this strain.
“If you give someone antibiotics, the bacteria can actually sense the presence of the antibiotics,” Dr. Nicole Iovine, head hospital epidemiologist at the University of Florida, told Contagion Live.
