In Dominic Savage’s film Close to You, the Academy Award candidate plays a guy named Sam who, for the first time since he had a gender change, returns to his family home.
The Guardian claims that when Wendy Crewson’s character plays Page’s mother on television, Page’s character corrects her.
The actor said it was a “genuine slip of the tongue” in response to the publication’s question, adding that he prefers not to focus on being misgendered unless it is done with malicious intent.
“I feel weird because I get misgendered all the time, and I don’t care unless someone’s trying to…” He said that he “wouldn’t correct Wendy as me” .
“I would say, ‘It’s okay.'” We’re going to let this moment go. It need a moment. You see, I’m not really myself. This is Sam. And that’s why that particular moment was so ideal,” he said.
