Elon Musk asserts that he can construct a $20 billion tunnel that will connect New York City and London in 54 minutes.

The Channel Tunnel, which now connects England and France, would be dwarfed by the years it would take to build a transatlantic tunnel between the United States and Britain.

According to Newsweek, the 23.5-mile Channel Tunnel took six years to finish, and if a transatlantic tunnel is built at the same rate, the undersea wonder would take an incredible 782 years.

There isn’t a final transatlantic tunnel design, despite the hype. Ideas include a tunnel that is positioned on stilts, buried under the ocean bottom.

Or even a floating tunnel that is connected to the seafloor by wires. Every concept has a high cost and unique engineering difficulties.

The creator of Tesla thinks a transatlantic tunnel could be built “for 1000X less money,” despite the fact that some estimate it would cost $25 trillion.

This audacious assertion comes after the billionaire founder’s continuous efforts to revolutionize international travel with SpaceX’s Starship rocket.
