While driving a 2026 Chevrolet Camaro at a high rate of speed, Collins reportedly failed to navigate a curve, exited the roadway, and struck a tree.
Like Lee, he was unrestrained, was ejected from the vehicle, and also died at the scene.
Investigation and Safety Message
Toxicology samples were collected from both victims, though impairment is not suspected in Collins’ crash. Investigators have not confirmed whether fatigue, distraction, or another factor may have contributed.
Authorities emphasized the importance of seatbelt use, and urged all drivers to avoid impairment, distraction, and fatigue while behind the wheel.
A Son Left Behind
The couple had become engaged in 2024 and were planning to marry next year. They had recently moved into a new home with their son, Gabriel, who is now being cared for by both families.
“He’s just having a little problem comprehending that we can’t talk to them, we can’t see them,” said Sandra Collins, JR’s mother, in an interview with FOX 10. “But he understands that they are asleep and are with God.”
