As the number of confirmed infections in 2025 has significantly surpassed previous year’s records, the US is fighting an increase in measles cases.
Although the US declared itself measles-free in 2000, the disease has recently returned to some states, most notably Texas.
Even while you can still get measles if you are completely vaccinated, this is quite uncommon.
According to the CDC, measles is spread by unvaccinated tourists who catch the illness overseas and then bring it back to unvaccinated regions.
It is recommended that parents give their children the MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine twice, with the first dose occurring between the ages of 12 and 15 months.
In the United States, measles deaths were last reported in 2015.
