According to the CDC, 285 cases were reported nationwide in 2024.
That indicates that, just four months into 2025, the number of cases has already nearly doubled from the previous year.
Forty percent of measles cases, or 114 people, resulted in hospitalization last year, with the bulk of those patients—52 percent, or 62 people—being younger than five.
Last year, no measles-related fatalities were reported.
How to handle a case of measles
The CDC advises getting in touch with your doctor right away if you think you may have measles or if you’ve come into contact with someone who does.
For four days following the rash’s onset, when you are most contagious, you should isolate yourself to stop the virus from spreading.
