Experts caution of signs of the “hidden” sickness HMPV that might be mistaken for the flu.

“In young children, the elderly and those who are immune compromised, HMPV can lead to severe cases and can move to the lower respiratory tract and may lead to pneumonia,” the physician said.

According to Jonathan Ball, a professor at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, HPMV has been known.

About since 2001 and has likely been in human circulation for much longer. Sadly, it is linked to pneumonia, especially in young infants, but this is luckily uncommon.

“Almost every child will have at least one HMPV infection by the time they are five years old, and we can expect to have multiple reinfections throughout life,”

Professor Paul Hunter of the University of East Anglia said. “It is one of the leading viral causes of respiratory infections in children under five-year-olds.”
