After a high-speed police chase ended with a fatal shooting, a video recorded at the scene sparked outrage and calls for an investigation.
The officer involved has since been suspended following public backlash over a controversial comment.
During a Facebook Live video titled “High speed chase lol,” 21-year-old Dreasjon Reed fled from Indianapolis police at speeds reaching 90 mph on Interstate 65.
Reed livestreamed himself exiting his vehicle and running on foot, encouraging viewers to retrieve his belongings from the abandoned car.
According to reports from The Washington Post, an officer attempted to use a Taser to apprehend Reed but was unsuccessful. Audio from the livestream captured officers telling Reed to stop,
With Reed audibly responding in defiance. Authorities say Reed then displayed a firearm and discharged it toward officers. In response, an officer returned fire, resulting in Reed’s death.
