Raymond Earl Brooks, who had legally adopted Julia’s mother and thus became Julia’s grandfather by adoption, was found guilty of mistreating her over several years.
Although Brooks received a five-year sentence, he was released after serving only a small portion of it.
“He shattered my sense of safety and faced barely any real consequences,” Julia said. “The memories still haunt me.
I’ve worked hard to overcome the trauma, but having to revisit everything makes healing harder.”
According to reports from the New York Post, Julia was around eight years old when the mistreatment began, and it continued for several years.
“I don’t recall exactly when it started, but it went on for so long that I began to believe it was normal,” she shared.
