Following a one-word jab at America, Pope Leo makes his first post on X.

“Christ’s peace is not the silence of the tomb after a conflict, and it is not the result of subjugation,” he said in a subsequent piece.

“Peace is a gift that rejuvenates people by looking at them.” Let’s pray for this peace, which is forgiveness, reconciliation, and the fortitude to start again.

Following a historic encounter between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy at Pope Francis’ burial last month, the pope then offered to assist global leaders in gathering to negotiate peace.

Leo said that the Holy See is prepared to assist adversaries in meeting so that they might gaze into each other’s eyes and restore the dignity of peace that everyone is entitled to.

“I say to the world leaders, heart in hand: let’s meet, let’s talk, let’s negotiate.” In his last piece, he concluded, “War is never inevitable.”

Weapons can and should not be used since they only make issues worse rather than better. History will remember those who cultivate peace, not those who reap victims.
