A message lamenting Meyer’s passing was also released by Governor J.B. Pritzker.
“I’m very sorry to learn that Captain David Meyer, who spent over 30 years serving the people of Chicago, died this morning while performing his duties.
As we grieve the loss of a real hero, our thoughts and prayers are with his family, loved ones, and the CFD. Pritzker wished for the blessing of his memory.
