Following their “suspicious” deaths, Gene Hackman and his wife’s preliminary autopsy reveal no exterior injuries.

“The circumstances surrounding the death of the two deceased individuals (are considered) to be suspicious enough in nature to require a thorough search and investigation.”

Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza told reporters Thursday that there was no overt trace of a struggle or that anything had been removed from the house, saying,

“There was no obvious sign or indication of foul play.” According to Mendoza, the pair had been dead for a long time.

“Foul play is not suspected as a factor in those deaths at this time,” the sheriff’s office said in its first public comment about the killings.

“The toxicology and the autopsy will be crucial,” Mendoza said during a press briefing on Thursday. He said that the probe is still under progress and would be conducted factually and cautiously.
