George Wendt, Beloved “Cheers” Star Dead at 76 on Remarkable Unlikely Anniversary

Starring the venerable sitcom “Cheers,” actor George Wendt passed Tuesday at the age of 76.

The Sun reports that his death came thirty-two years to the day following the last episode of “Cheers” on May 20, 1993.

Although no cause of death was stated, his family said, “George was a loving family guy, a friend and confidant to all of those fortunate enough to have met him.

He will be sorely missed always. The family has asked for quiet during this period.

Wendt portrayed beer-quaffing Norm Peterson in all 275 episodes of the show, which for 11 years transported viewers inside a Boston tavern where “everybody knows your name.”

Wendt received six remarkable Emmy nominations for supporting actors.
