For forcing his elderly mother to live like a “prisoner in her own home” and subjecting her to repeated abuse, a man in Spain has been sentenced to 19 years in prison.
The 47-year-old, identified by Spanish media as Rafael CDVM, was found guilty in Cadiz of repeatedly mistreating his 83-year-old mother.
The investigation began in the spring of 2023, when two of the elderly woman’s caregivers noticed bloodstains on her clothing in Chiclana de la Frontera, a coastal town.
According to court documents reported by El País, the caregivers had previously witnessed the man threatening his mother, warning he would “kick” her and “rip” her head off.
The victim also told her caregivers, “My little boy slept here today, and I don’t want him to. He shouldn’t be in my bed,” signaling that he had intruded into her personal space.
The caregivers also noticed bruises on the elderly woman’s body multiple times.
