His response crushes my heart when stepmom performs unique wedding vows to him when he is four years old.

In terms of emotional impact, few events can compare to a wedding. That was something that four-year-old Gage learnt the hard way as he battled his emotions at his father’s marriage to Senior Airman Emily Leehan in Ripley, New York a few years ago.

Joshua Newville was a US Marine Corps sergeant. Gage, being a little boy, was pulling it together admirably. This changed when his father’s wife heard the vows she had written with him in mind. Let the breakdown begin.

Standing behind his father as he exchanged vows with his soon-to-be bride, Senior Airman Emily Leehan, was a time of great pride for Gage Newville. The little boy didn’t realize it at the time, but Leehan had written a unique set of vows just for him.

It became too much for Gage to handle when she gave them to an already-moved crowd. Gage broke down in tears as soon as Leehan started her performance. The Daily Mail reports that Leehan started by saying, “I want you to be safe, to try your hardest and to be a good person.”

But Gage had already embraced her and been emotionally distraught before she could finish. There was, of course, a collective “awwww” from the crowd as Leehan attempted to calm him down.

She reassured him, “Don’t cry baby,” but at that stage, Gage could probably get away with a little slack discipline. “One last thing, my dear, I pray you realize is that you are an exceptional young man,” Leehan said.
