Horrifying pictures show what animals might look like by the year 2100 if gene editing gets out of hand.

Global experts will meet at the Global Observatory for Genome Editing International Summit this month to explore how new technologies can ‘change what it means to be a human being’.

Professor Krishanu Saha of the University of Wisconsin–Madison will chair a significant panel on the “Limits of Engineering.”

He told MailOnline that scientists must move quickly to place restrictions on the types of gene changes that should be permitted.

These technologies have already “raised some challenging questions about human integrity,” according to Professor Saha.

The production of novel hybrids known as “chimaeras” is one of the most unexpected ways that genetic engineering could drastically alter animals.

According to Professor Saha, parts of a chimaera’s body would originate from two distinct origins.
