A picturesque family who had established their haven by the river in the mountains of North Carolina was washed away by a massive wave during Hurricane Helene.
As the storm drew near, Alison Wisely, her fiancé Knox Petrucci, and their two kids, Felix, age 9, and Lucas, age 7, attempted to evacuate their house, but as they attempted to drive through the floods,
their car started to float. They chose to go back to their house since driving the automobile was difficult, but as they were doing so, a wave carried them all into the Toe River.
All of their remains have been retrieved after the incident. When Hurricane Helene warnings were issued, Alison and Knox prepared, according to close family members.
Since the region has never had severe weather, they thought the mountains would protect them, so they bought pallets and sandbags and prepared for some small flooding in the basement of their house.
