Following the state and U.S. Supreme Courts’ denial of appeals earlier this week, South Carolina killed a man by firing squad on Friday.
Mikal Mahdi, 42, was found guilty in the 2004 murders of a convenience store clerk in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and an off-duty police officer in Calhoun County, South Carolina.
For killing the officer, he received a death sentence; for killing the clerk, he received a life term. Mahdi might have died by firing squad, electric chair, or death injection, but he opted for the latter.
