James Earl Jones, 93, was the actor from “Star Wars” and “Lion King.”

His iconic voice work as Darth Vader from the original Star Wars trilogy is perhaps what made him most famous. He returned to the character in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005),

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), and most recently, in the television series Obi-Wan Kenobi, which premiered in 2022.

Rolling Stone cites Lucas’s 2015 statement, “I knew the voice had to be very, very special,” at an American Theatre Wing dinner honoring Jones.

“Although it was difficult at first, the decision was actually very simple.” Actually, it came down to a decision between James Earl Jones and Orson Welles.

James Earl Jones was the clear winner. He created one of the greatest villains in history with almost any words.
