James Earl Jones, who portrayed Darth Vader in Field of Dreams, died in New York at the age of ninety-three.

George Lucas, the director of Star Wars, engaged him to provide the dreadful voice of Vader. According to Jones,

“He considered using Orson Welles but realized he might be too recognizable, so he hired me to do the voice, by just reading the words off the page.” It took me a few hours to complete.

Jones said that despite receiving just $7000 for Star Wars, a series of subsequent ads “took good care of him.” Jones later gave in and continued to voice the character in other movies, TV shows, and video games.

Originally, he refused to get credit for the film since he believed his voiceovers were just a component of the visual effects.

In addition to Return of the Jedi (1983), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and Star Wars (1977), he reprised his role as Vader in Rogue One (2016),
