“What you’re seeing now is that all must pay tribute to the king,” Stewart remarked. He warned that the administration’s increasing attacks on the press reflect a broader pattern of authoritarian behavior.
Addressing the lawsuit, Stewart said, “You can always critique editorial decisions.
But it certainly doesn’t rise to the level of libel, slander, or whatever else they’re trying to claim with this $20 billion lawsuit. It’s a subjective editorial decision, not a federal crime.”
He went on to criticize the growing pressure placed on media organizations and expressed uncertainty about the future of his own show.
“I’ll keep doing The Daily Show until the company’s bought by someone who wants to dismantle it,” Stewart said. “Then who knows what happens.”
