According to King Charles, he and Queen Camilla were “deeply saddened to learn of Pope Francis’s death.”
He added in a statement: “But knowing that His Holiness was able to send an Easter greeting to the Church and the world he served with such devotion throughout his life and ministry has somewhat eased our heavy hearts.”
“His holiness will be remembered for his compassion, his care for the Church’s unity, and his unwavering dedication to the common causes of all believers and good-willed individuals who strive for the betterment of others.”
“Pope Francis was a Pope for the poor, the downtrodden, and the forgotten,” stated Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
He met Christians who were suffering from poverty, famine, persecution, and war all across the world, bringing him close to the reality of human frailty. He never gave up on a better world, though.
The man who would become Pope Francis, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, was born in Buenos Aires on December 17, 1936.
