The Children’s Commissioner said that she would support an investigation and stated that the government has to address child sexual abuse “further, faster.”
In a statement, Dame Rachel de Souza praised the “landmark legislation” on safeguarding in the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill as well as the pledges previously made.
However, she urged even more action and said that she would “shortly” meet with Prof. Jay, the leader of the investigation into child sexual abuse, to talk about further steps.
“While I applaud the Government’s commitment and the historic legislation being passed by Parliament in the form of the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill, now is the time to move much more quickly,” Dame Rachel wrote.
