Frank Bisignano, a veteran Wall Street executive, has been appointed as the new head of the Social Security Administration (SSA), one of the largest U.S. federal agencies overseeing benefits for more than 70 million Americans.
In a recently leaked audio recording from a town hall meeting with SSA managers on May 21, Bisignano openly expressed surprise at his appointment and admitted he was not initially seeking the role.
“So, I get a phone call and it’s about Social Security. And I’m really not, I swear I’m not looking for a job,” he is heard saying in the audio.
“I’m Googling Social Security. You know, one of my great skills—I’m one of the great Googlers on the East Coast.”
Bisignano also made light of the situation, joking, “Put that as the headline for the Post: ‘Great Googler in Chief.’”
