Ignatius hunched down and prayed for his life after taking many hits to the eyes. Ignatius informed police that the suspects ran away after he fell to the ground, but he thinks they wanted to rob him.
Fortunately, Ignatius was not seriously hurt. He said in an interview with CBS News that he had trouble seeing through his enormously enlarged eyes and that his glasses were shattered.
He recognized that something needed to be done to reduce the increasing number of assaults at CTA stations, but he is determined not to let fear stop him from using the train.
Locals, fed up with the assaults, gathered to the 19th District police station’s Town Hall to demand greater policing, which deviates from the media’s portrayal.
A larger police presence at the stations was demanded by the varied population, who expressed worries about the widespread criminality impacting their everyday commuting.
