Longtime defensive mainstay and Chicago Bears Hall of Famer Steve McMichael passes away at age 67.

CHICAGO – The NFL Hall of Famer and defensive great passed away. At 5:28 p.m. on Wednesday, Steve “Mongo” McMichael,

Who had been fighting ALS for the previous three years, passed away. McMichael was sixty-seven. Last February, “Mongo” joined fellow former Bears Devin Hester.

And Julius Peppers as a senior member of the NFL Hall of Fame. The McMichael family announced earlier Wednesday that Mongo will be placed in hospice care.

After being diagnosed with ALS in 2021, McMichael was admired by his teammates, adored by his fans outside of the game, and admired by those who looked up to him while he was a Bear.

According to former Bears linebacker Ron Rivera, “He’s a fighter, he’s a battler,” in August 2021. “This struggle he is going through epitomizes who he is as a man.”

The Bears’ Super Bowl XX champion McMichael will always be a Bears fan favorite. He was renowned for having an exaggerated personality.
