Max Romeo, the reggae icon behind the BBC-banned song, has away at the age of 80.

At the age of 80, Max Romeo, a well-known Jamaican reggae performer with a global fan base, passed away. He died in Saint Andrew Parish, Jamaica, of heart problems,

According to a statement that was first posted on his social media accounts. It says: “We regret to inform you of the passing of our beloved Max.”

Romeo is a very prominent reggae singer whose most well-known songs are “War Ina Babylon” and “Chase The Devil,” the latter of which was notably sampled by Jay Z and The Prodigy.

Despite being banned by the BBC, his popular song Wet Dream shot to the top of the UK charts in 1968 and remained in the Top 10 for an incredible 25 weeks.
