🔍 Investigation Underway: Voyage Data Recorder Will Reveal Cause
The cause of the crash is believed to be a mechanical failure that left the captain unable to steer the vessel.
Transportation experts say the ship’s voyage data recorder (VDR) — the maritime equivalent of an airplane’s black box — will offer critical insight.
According to Mary Schiavo, a CNN transportation analyst and former U.S. Department of Transportation inspector general:
“It will show when the power was lost, the mechanical conditions, and what control inputs were attempted. This data will be vital for the investigation.”
