Misinformation flourishes. In this instance, it was widely circulated and unsubstantiated allegation Jordan had demanded that Pride banners be banned.
For example: “BREAKING NEWS: Michael Jordan calls for a ban on the Pride flag in sports and U.S. schools,” read a January 26, 2025, Facebook post.
Similarly, on January 11, 2025, an Instagram post included a picture of Jordan with a false message implying that he had taken a firm stand against LGBTQ+ representation in school and sports.
This allegation was widely disseminated outside of social media. The fake article spread even further after being picked up by other blogs and obscure news websites.
