Before confirmation of her arrest, Culley’s mother, Lyanne Kennedy, expressed her anguish to local media outlets:
“The last message she sent was to me on Saturday at 5:30pm saying she was going to FaceTime me later. That was the last anyone heard from her.”
Kennedy said Culley had flown to the Philippines after Easter, before heading to Thailand around May 3, and had been active on social media until May 5.
