It was her last blatant act. The other family members apparently stayed in different parts of the house, still in the dark about what had happened, and she said nothing to them.
The youngsters were taken to the hospital once paramedics finally arrived, but they were not able to be rescued.
Their great-aunt Pearl Rebolledo Velazco spoke of the family’s astonishment and incredulity at what had transpired during a vigil for the children this week.
Velazco stated she had no reason to think anything was unusual, even though she had been inside the house when the children died. Catalaya’s father, Pedro Rios, who was also at home at the time, didn’t either.
A distraught Velazco told mourners, “I know it’s hard to believe, but we were here throughout [the house] as she killed our kids,” according to Fox 10.
They believed she was putting them to sleep. “We had no reason to think otherwise.” Nevertheless, she regrets not knowing more and not stepping in to help.
