Emergency responders — including an ambulance and a helicopter — arrived quickly. Paramedics suspected a viper snake bite, a rare but dangerous venomous snake found in parts of Europe.
Kristoffer was airlifted to a hospital and treated with antivenom, initially showing signs of improvement.
But then things took a frightening turn.
Kristoffer’s condition deteriorated rapidly. He began bleeding internally, and bruising spread across his entire body.
His blood volume dropped to less than half of what it should be, and he lost over 10 pounds, dropping from 44 to 33 pounds in just days. Doctors fought to save his life as the venom ravaged his tiny body.
