The case claims that Blue Bird and Rush offered a bus that they knew was dangerous because it lacked important safety features that other models had, like cameras, sensors, and a front crossing arm.
The lawsuit is still pending in Dallas County.
Lawyers for both businesses responded to PEOPLE’s request for comment by expressing their condolences to the Sayre family but stating that they were unable to comment further because of ongoing legal proceedings.
