Alcaide is encouraging people to take precautions against whooping cough for themselves and their family members who are most at risk.
Alcaide tells Cara Lynn Shultz of PEOPLE her story.
Brady was a bigger baby, a little brute, as we knew when I was expecting. Because he was so large, the birth was somewhat challenging.
I believe I spent nearly eleven hours in labor. Brady was born on November 20, 2011, at 11:37 p.m., after a full day of work.
That bond between a mother and son was incredible when my first boy was born. Our family felt whole. And I felt whole as a mother.
Brady was ready to rock and roll when he emerged. He had incredibly plump cheeks. He was a huge kid, even if he appears to be a small peanut in the photos.
By the time he became ill, he had just begun to chuckle. I mimicked his hand gestures while singing “I’m a Little Teapot.”
