“We were able to secure this conviction without forcing two young children to relive the horrific things they experienced,” Smith said.
As part of the sentencing, Garnier is barred from any contact with his daughters until 2056—the maximum no-contact period allowed under New York law.
Only the girls themselves may choose to lift that restriction once they reach adulthood.
Judge John Hubbard, who presided over the case, addressed Garnier directly:
“You took a life and injured your children. They had a right to expect protection from you.”
