Obamas formally back Harris’s presidential campaign: “Everything in our power will be directed toward ensuring her victory.”

The president made it clear that the Democrats will have difficult times ahead, saying, “The Democratic Party will be navigating uncharted waters in the days ahead, but I have extraordinary confidence that the leaders of our party will be able to create a process from which an outstanding nominee emerges.”
But it seems like he’s changed his mind and is now publicly supporting Harris as the Democratic candidate.

Since Obama was among the last prominent Democrats to comment on the 2024 contest, this is a watershed moment.
President Obama, who is 62 years old, praised Harris and highlighted her qualities for the office. Obama said, “She has the vision, the character, and the strength that this critical moment demands.” So said Obama.

“Earlier this week, Michelle and I called our friend @KamalaHarris,” Obama said in a post on X (previously Twitter).

She has our unwavering support, and we feel she would be an excellent president. We told her that. We will spare no effort in our mission to ensure her victory in November, at this pivotal juncture for our nation. Joining us would be an honor.
President Joe Biden, who withdrew his support for Harris on July 21, praised her soon thereafter, and other prominent Democrats had already endorsed her as well.
