Olympic team manager defends choice to let rapist participate despite 12-year-old victim

Your dreams of playing for your nation are now nothing more than broken dreams. The Dutch beach volleyball duo of Van de Velde and Matthew Immers have, nevertheless, earned a spot in the 2024 Olympics.

According to the Dutch Olympic Committee (NOC), the convicted rapist “sought and received professional counseling”

Following his release from jail and “demonstrated to those around him – privately and professionally – self-insight and reflection.”

This, according to BBC Sport, is why the NOC decided to let the convicted rapist participate.

Additionally, Pieter van den Hoogenband, the Netherlands’ chef de mission, has commented on the criticism and clarified why he was “a bit surprised” by it.
