A convicted child sex offender from Pakistan has won a legal battle to remain in the United Kingdom after arguing that deportation would put his life in danger due to threats of religious violence and persecution in his home country.
Jamil Ahmed, who has lived in Scotland since 2002, was twice convicted of sexually abusing teenage girls—first in 2008 and again in 2013.
Despite a deportation order issued after his second conviction, Ahmed has remained in the UK, mounting a nearly decade-long legal fight against removal.
In a recent ruling, the UK Upper Tribunal of the Immigration and Asylum Chamber found that a previous judge failed to properly assess key elements of Ahmed’s appeal.
Including evidence submitted by a Pakistani legal expert, testimony from Ahmed’s wife, and documentation alleging threats against him.
